Please join us for our annual Halloween party as it’s once again that special time to eat, drink and be scary!
On Friday, October 31st we’re going to have Robinette’s infamous donuts and apple cider as well as some of Rico’s legendary coffee down in the Atrium from 9:00am until 10:00am. So start your day off right with some fiendishly fried sugar donuts and wash them down with a glass of wicked apple cider or some sinful hot java! (Guess who figured out how to use his thesaurus?)
Although this should be a fun time for all, it’s really not in line with the historical origins of Halloween. According to the legend, Halloween dates back over 2,000 years ago to a Celtic festival that celebrated a new year each November 1st. This day marked the end of the summer harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, which was a time often associated with misery and death. The Celt’s believed that on this particular night, on the eve of the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred and the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. So, the Celt’s took to the offensive and built huge bonfires and wore scary costumes to ward off these ghosts that were roaming around their land causing havoc; and who could blame them, it was a tough time for us humans full of hardship and deprivation and they really needed to blame all this pain on on something. I guess I’m not so sure about the blurring of worlds and the need to scare away evil ghosts, but I do know I like donuts and cider and I’m really glad that I have a great group of tenants.
So, hopefully you can come join us tomorrow in the atrium, and maybe, just maybe, one of these ancient celtic ghosts that’s been shunned and hated for thousands of years will see us having some fun and stop by join us. That is, of course, if the legend is wrong, but what if it’s right? And these ghosts are really evil…………………. mmmmwwhahahahahahaha! (evil laugh).
